It’s often been said that ‘Education is the key to success.’ As cliché as that statement can be, and as often as it’s been said, education can truly change a person’s life. The pathway to higher degree education is becoming more and more of a personal pursuit for some people. While pursuing an educational degree can be costly depending on the location of the campus, numerous international and reputable Universities from around the world are offering scholarships on a regular basis, beneficially offering students a leeway in terms of the financial expenses required.

One of the key requirements needed for an international grant, for students from a non-English speaking country, is for them to have a solid English language skill. And one of the most widely acceptable certifications to demonstrate it is through an IELTS certificate. It measures and assesses an individual’s proficiency of English language through the four skills of: Listening, Reading, Writing, and Speaking.

In an effort to promote and widen up the usage of English language in the community, English First Swara Group held an online interactive workshop, titled ‘Youth Talk’ for both students and professionals who aim to obtain an IELTS certificate for their educational and professional needs. Hosted by EF Swara’s very own IEP Specialist, the event showcased the ins and outs of IELTS testing and how to successfully succeed in it; the know-how, tips and tricks for each skill, sample exercises, in-depth discussion, and much more.

At the later stage of the workshop, participants were asked to try to answer and complete some tasks together. They’re also allowed to submit any questions they have in regards to obtaining a good score in IELTS or to discuss what struggles they have in doing so. That way, participants can have a glimpse of what they might encounter, and thus can better prepare themselves, for when they do take the actual IELTS certification.

Finishing off the webinar, the talk shifted to one of EF Swara’s teachers who happen to be a scholarship receiver herself for a university in the United Kingdom a few years ago. There, she shared some of her own stories in successfully obtaining the grant; the entry requirements for her university of choice, how she managed her IELTS preparations, as well as her general experience while living and studying abroad.

All in all, the eagerness of the participants combined with the light-hearted yet insightful delivery of the host has resulted in a very compelling, enjoyable, and informative presentation. English First Swara Group hope that through the workshop they can reach out to more people, to inspire them, and as a call to action in improving their English proficiency, as well as to take on any challenges in the process.
